The International Mandela Day initiative involves citizens pledging to volunteer 67 minutes of their time engaged in worthwhile causes.

Voluntary and Community Organisations, charities and those alike would identity volunteering opportunities e.g. reading to the elderly, helping them with outreach work or their cultural programs and citizens would have the opportunity to pledge 67 minutes of their time to carry out specific tasks.

It’s in your hands to make a difference.

Sign your pledge. ** Email us at [email protected], let us know what are you going to do for your community. If you are seeking more people to join your activities, leave us your contact details (name, contact no.)

地點 Location : PathFinders premises in Kowloon

    關於活動 About:

Each year, thousands of migrant women, most of whom enter Hong Kong as Foreign Domestic Helpers, find themselves as new mothers. They are undocumented, with no right to work in Hong Kong, no access to social and medical services. They do not have the support of friends and are very often ostracised by their families. They are very often the victims of abuse. They desperately need someone to trust.  PathFinders is a donation-funded charity whose mission is to break this hopeless cycle and help these women and their children find a safe and legal way home.

SAAHK are going to run a pilot SEWING SKILLS course to teach these women the basic principles of sewing – a skill that will help them while they are waiting to find their way home, and one they can use once they are settled in their home countries. Initially they are in desperate need of maternity clothing and summer clothes for the newborn babies, but with a little confidence and practice – this could become a range!

This pilot skills programme will initially be held at the PathFinders premises in Kowloon generously sponsored by The Sewing Lounge, with bolts of fabric kindly donated by SAAHK members.  The initial group will be for 12-15 people.
